Cognitive behavioral therapy for obesity

The therapy is based on evidence-based science and the current dietary guidelines that suggest that: “a modest weight loss of 10% of the initial body weight has clinically meaningful health outcomes and benefits”.

  • Concerns mainly obese people; body mass index, ΒΜΙ≥30Kg/m2
  • Originates from a theory that deals with the processes involved in the maintenance of the binge-eating problems (i.e., in bulimia/overeating: there is an overall poor sense of self-value and body image & shape, resulting in behavior relapse and regaining of body weight), which places central importance on the contribution of cognitive and behavioral procedures tο help the individual change targeted mechanisms of problem maintenance

Treatment characteristics:

  • It is administered to a group of people, obese or even overweight
  • its main content is the dietary self-monitoring, the definition of specific behavioral goals (diet and exercise), nutrition courses emphasizing increasing physical activity and lifestyle changes, the use of stimulus-control techniques and training in problem solving, cognitive restructuring and relapse prevention
  • There is a monitoring team (behavioral specialist, nutritionist, fitness trainer)

How does EvexiaDiet differ:

We have extensively studied the Social Cognitive Theory and been trained in dietary behavior modification. Thus, providing a learning-friendly environment based on good mentoring and implementation of SMART goals (e.g., simple, achievable, important):

  • We help the person to stay motivated, change the way of thinking and improve the eating habits, and
  • We debunk diet myths, misconceptions and unnecessary concerns regarding nutrition. Usually, people have fixed perceptions and mindset in nutrition, e.g., towards meal timing or submitting to pressure to achieve large goals, which will bring about the opposite effect, anxiety and overeating/binge eating
Functional Nutrition Therapy

«Wellbeing is a result of the development of healthy nutrition, functional nutrition»

Because at “EvexiaDiet” we believe that:
Based on the ancient quote, we activate a functional blending of various foods, special nutrition trends and treatments, so that we are sure to bring the stimulation and strengthening that your body needs to function well!

Benefits of functional therapy:

  • “Novel” Functional foods or foods for specific health uses include a range of foods, which may be:
A natural food containing a bioactive ingredient (other than vitamins and minerals) with a positive health effect
or a processed food to which a component has been removed or added
or the concentration of one of the food components has been increased in order to enhance its contribution to health.
  • It is important that their beneficial effects in reducing the risk of chronic diseases are scientifically proven!
Dietary recommendations for irritable bowel syndrome and research innovations in idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are heterogeneous inflammatory bowel disease of unknown aetiology.

Crohn’s disease affects any part of the gastrointestinal tract, whilst ulcerative colitis is confined to the colonic mucosa.

Diagnosis of the disease:

In an innovative study we proposed that:

  • The very long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically DHA (docosahexaenoic acid of omega-3) & ARA (arachidonic acid of omega-6 family), could be used as biochemical markers to differentiate between ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease

Research data:

Still, B12 deficiency is common in Crohn’s disease patients and is associated with changes in red blood cell membrane omega-3 & -6 fatty acid composition; zinc deficiency has been associated with diarrhea and risk of gastrointestinal infections; folic acid and iron deficiencies have been reported in irritable bowel syndrome.

EvexiaDiet nutrition plan:
By employing innovative nutritional tools and modifying dietary patterns based on current nutrition research and guidelines, we successfully produce specialized and personalized diet plans that limit types of foods causing intestinal disorders (e.g., specific sugars present in food), and to address nutrient deficiencies in patients with idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
